How to calculate the size of a tablecloth for your table?

To choose the perfect size of the tablecloth, you need 3 values:

  • X - length of the tabletop (cm)
  • Y - width of the table top (cm)
  • H - height of the table or planned overhang of the tablecloth (cm)

Step 1 - measure the table

  • Measure the length of the table top (X) and the width of the table top (Y).
  • Measure the height of the table or decide what overhang you want the tablecloth to have(H).

Step 2 - count the dimension of the tablecloth

  • Length of tablecloth = X + 2 x H
  • Width of the tablecloth = Y + 2 x H

Example

  • Table: X = 160 cm, Y = 80 cm
  • You want an overhang of 25 cm on each side (H = 25 cm)
  • Tablecloth dimension: 160 + 2 x 25 = 210 cm and 80 + 2 x 25 = 130 cm
  • So order: 210 x 130 cm

Practical tips

  • The most common overhang is 20-30 cm to each side.
  • For events and fairs, an overhang to the floor works great - then take the height of the table as H.
  • If the result comes out "between" sizes, choose a larger one (the tablecloth will look fuller).
